Bruno Houssin, designer français et professeur à l'école de design de Nantes.
Diplômé de l'école Boulle de Paris, en Architecture intérieure et Design en 1986. A 23 ans, il fonde à Paris, le studio Zébulon, spécialisé en design global (Espace & Objet).
Bruno Houssin est novateur dans l'art de la mise en scène (VIA, Megalit, Artemide). Conscient des besoins des architectes de par sa formation, il conçoit du mobilier et du luminaire pour s'adapter aux nouveaux usages, et amener une dimension poétique à ces espaces. Notamment, le système Flap pour la société italienne Artemide qui proposait un concept innovant dans son écriture formel, intégrant différents types d'éclairage et qui a connu un très grand succès commercial. Également sculpteur, avec Le système Kao, qui propose une approche plus graphique pour signer des espaces. Le Tid'jou de Soca, siège précurseur de part sa réalisation en rotomoulage dans le prolongement de la plate-forme à vivre Chill Out.
Sa pensée créative est axée depuis toujours sur l'éco-conception, par laquelle il réunit les facteurs du développement durable: écologie, durabilité, économie de moyens et équité sociale.
Le récent projet Kulbu pour la société basque Sokoa, illustre cette démarche, notamment avec l'emploi de matière bio-sourcé renouvelable dérivée de résidus de canne à sucre, et qui en fait le premier mobilier réalisé avec cette matière. Son travail sur les ruches et la biodiversité lui permettent également de trouver du sens à son travail de designer, qui pour lui doit encourager une forme de décroissance positive.
Son travail d'enseignant lui permet de partager son savoir-faire, et d'encadrer des projets prospectifs autour de la biosphère, du biomimétisme et de l'objet connecté utile.
Bruno Houssin a obtenu de nombreux prix : Deux Red Dot Design Award dont un Best of the Best, Une Lampe d'or de la création au SIL, Cinq Étoiles de l’Observeur du Design, deux prix Janus de l’Industrie, et un prix IF International Forum Design.

Bruno Houssin is innovative in the art of directing (VIA, Megalit, Artemide). Aware of the needs of architects through his training, he designs furniture and lighting to adapt to new uses, and bring a poetic dimension to these spaces. In particular, the Flap system for the Italian company Artemide which proposed an innovative concept in its formal writing, incorporating different types of lighting and which was a great commercial success. Also sculptor, with The Kao System, which offers a more graphic approach to signing spaces. The Tid'jou de Soca, precursor seat due to its realization in rotomolding in the extension of the living platform Chill Out.
His creative thinking has always focused on eco-design, by which he brings together the factors of sustainable development: ecology, sustainability, economy of means and social equity.
The recent Kulbu project for the Basque company Sokoa illustrates this approach, particularly with the use of bio-sourced material derived from sugar cane residues, and which makes it the first furniture made with this material.
His work on hives and biodiversity also allow him to find meaning in his work as a designer, which for him must encourage a form of positive decay.
His work as a teacher allows him to share his know-how, and to frame prospective projects around the biosphere, biomimicry and useful connected object.
Bruno Houssin has won numerous awards: Two Red Dot Design Awards including a Best of the Best, A Gold Lamp of Creation at SIL, Five Stars of the Design Observer, two Janus Awards of Industry, and an IF International Forum Design Award.
